Myeongdong Blue Ribbon Chinese Restaurant - Shandong Gyoja: Five-Spice Pork, Dumplings, and Fried Rice

📍 Myeongdong, Seoul

Hey, it's Yuna! :)

Before heading to Japan, I had the chance to visit Myeongdong again after a long time! While searching for a place to have dinner, my friend recommended a must-try Chinese restaurant in the area—Shandong Gyoja.

Note: It's not searchable on Naver Maps, but you can find it on KakaoMap.

It seems like the restaurant is no longer listed on Naver Place.
Address: 52-13, Namdaemun-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul (Myeongdong 2-gil 26)
Phone: 02-778-4150
Hours: Daily from 11:00 AM to 9:30 PM

The restaurant feels like a genuine local Chinese spot, with no Korean signage on the signboard. It has been running for over 20 years in Myeongdong, and it’s known for its many Blue Ribbon awards.

The vibe inside is very authentic and a bit like a Chinese historical drama's tavern (yes, I love those!), and the place is often crowded with middle-aged customers.

Menu Highlights:

  • Five-Spice Pork (오향장육)
  • Fried Rice (볶음밥)
  • Dumplings (물만두)

The Five-Spice Pork came out first!
It's similar to sweet and sour pork, but it’s made with five spices and soy sauce, giving it a very rich and aromatic flavor. These spices include star anise, cinnamon, cloves, pepper, and fennel.

It’s typically served cold and features both pork skin and lean meat, giving it a chewy texture, which is the highlight of this dish.

Next, the Fried Rice arrived, perfectly fried with a fluffy texture. Chinese restaurants are known for their strong wok heat, which makes the fried rice airy and delicious with just the right amount of oil. It was definitely satisfying!

We also had Egg Soup on the side, which was rich with eggs—just the way I love it.

The Dumplings were stuffed generously. Although I'm not usually a big fan of dumplings, I tried one, and it was packed with flavor. If you’re in the area, you should definitely give it a try!

Shandong Gyoja is a local Chinese gem near the Chinese Embassy, always bustling with people. If you plan to visit, make sure to time it right!
